The Museum of London, which is due to open in 2026, unveiled a new logo, ‘Pigeon and Splat’, to mark the renovation. Literally translated, it means ‘pigeon and fluffy’, and the main character is a white clay pigeon with a shiny golden stool. This logo was commissioned by the Museum of London from Uncommon Creative Studio and was created based on a survey of 500 Londoners as well as tourists The logo was created directly by 33 Londoners with various occupations including tattooists, chefs , and boxers .
Unfortunately, the majority of Londoners responded that they did not understand why the pigeon and feces became such an iconic symbol. Critical comments are expressed, such as “I never saw anyone talking about pigeons while I lived in London” and “France has used the pigeon theme at the Paris Olympics already. ”
Sharon Ament, Director of the Museum of London, said: “The dove and the double falls symbolize our historic place, a place where sand and mud have been side by side for thousands of years. “We share our city with others, including millions of animals, and pigeons are always everywhere in London, and so are we. Senior keeper Francis Marshall also supported the positive view, saying, “The pigeon has seen changes and growth in London for over 1,000 years and has come to to be a symbol of the city.” Of course, the implications of the new Museum of London logo are being taken into account.
