The Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) denounced a series of acts of vandalism and theft that occurred at its headquarters in Parque Forestal.
Regarding the events that occurred on Tuesday, December 21, the MAC reported that the events affected four exhibitions to different degrees.
According to the degree of damage, the exhibits affected were “Almost, you almost loved me. Countermemories”, by Claudia Lee; “Leaking Women: Women who hold the roof”, by Paula Salas and Soledad Pinto; “Liquid Solid Surface” by Alejandro Leonhardt; and a work from the Biennial of Media Arts: “Umbral”, specifically that of Andrés Denegri.
Both the artists and curators, managers and collections involved were informed as soon as the events occurred, after which they were able to verify the levels of damage in the room.
Complaint
Along with making a condition status report, the MAC filed a complaint with the First Police Station of Santiago, who on the night of December 21 made the first expert opinion that will accompany the initiation of the case in the prosecution.
So far, a person linked to the events has been identified and during the afternoon of December 22, the museum received, from a direct relative, part of the stolen pieces.
“Faced with this, the MAC has received various expressions of support from artistic and museum institutions, which makes me think that we are facing a symptomatic event that involves us all. We could say that what happened at the MAC happens to the arts sector in general, in a context of social fragility that puts us new challenges to face with creativity and determination, ”explained Daniel Cruz, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
