This Saturday, May 14, the Night of the Museums returns for its 18th edition and as every year, the Strasbourg museums play it night owls and open their doors free of charge to visitors. This year, the prog highlights animals thanks to the collections of the Zoological Museum, anatomy, but also the research and excavations of Strasbourg researchers in Egypt over the past 150 years!
Organized since 2005, the Night of Museums will be held in Strasbourg on Saturday 14 May. An unmissable event, which allows you to discover the wealth of objects presented in our museums and to discover the world of research in a new light, or rather under a new night. On all three campuses (historic campus, the Esplanade and the medical campus), tours and events are organized throughout the evening.

Animals in the spotlight!
This year, animals are in the spotlight and they can be found in several places, starting with the Institute of Geology located rue Blessig, which hosts the paleontology collection made up of approximately 100,000 specimens. But also at the Adolf Michaelis museum in Palais U, where the film “The collections of the Zoological Museum come out of the shadows” in which one can observe the collections lit with a flashlight, will be projected continuously (every 5min), in the Daubrée amphitheater.
And for those who would like to see them in person, some animals will settle under the starry sky of the Planetarium, 13 Observatory Street. Reservations are nevertheless essential at the following address: jds-reservation.unistra.fr.
At the Museum of Decorative Arts, several visits are organized on the subject with at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. “Stuffed animals, stuffed animals… what is taxidermy? “, at 10 p.m. “The largest animal”, and at 11 p.m. “The most colorful animal”.

Egyptology, admire the beauty of science and bones
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Misha (Interuniversity House of Human Sciences – Alsace), a guided tour retracing more than 150 years of Strasbourg research in the valley of Thebes (which is now the city of Luxor) is proposed. The university’s Egyptology collection includes no less than 6,000 ancient coins. Funerary masks, vases, or funerary statuettes, all the objects presented come from excavations carried out in Egypt. The visit lasts approximately 45 minutes and registration is compulsory: jds-reservation.unistra.fr.
An exhibition titled « Supplementary Elements” is to be discovered until May 22, including the evening of the 14 when guided tours will be offered. Thanks to the collaboration of several laboratories with visual artists, a large course of open-air works will extend over the Esplanade campus. Originally, Supplementary Elements is a four-year program during which researchers and scientists have worked hand in hand to put science into images. On the medicine campus, part of the collection of the Institute of Normal Anatomy will exceptionally be open to visitors. The institute is located on rue Kirschleger and the entrance is via the back of the building and on site, human bones from all parts of the body, dating from the late 18th century to the present day.

Nature in all its forms in the city’s museums
All of the city’s museums will also be accessible free of charge throughout the evening, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Palais Rohan, Alsatian Museum, MAMCS, Aubette, events are planned in no less than eight places different. And this year, the theme of the city’s museums is “The desire of nature”.
At the Tomi Ungerer museum, it will be an opportunity to discover how the artist gave pride of place to nature in his works. with a visit entitled “The representation of nature by Tomi Ungerer in Le Grand Livre Des Chansons” at 7.30 p.m. and 8 p.m., or “The representation of nature by Tomi Ungerer in Jean de la Lune”, at 9.30 p.m. At the Alsatian museum, participants will have the opportunity to discover from 7 p.m. to midnight “Mysterious in nature / Gheim vùn Nàtür üss”, which will focus on objects related to nature and its symbolism. Storytelling sessions will also be scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., as well as musical performances by the group Papyros’N.
There will also be lots of workshops to take part in, especially at the Palais Rohan, where you can compose your own vegetable crown as in ancient times, in the courtyard of the Palace, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Still at the Palais Rohan, but this time at Archaeological Museuma natural cosmetics workshop will be held from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., as well as a “the strength of the boar” workshop where participants will be invited to create a medallion from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
