Museum am Dom: changing works of art in the shop window

The Würzburg Museum am Dom wants to make a virtue of the necessity of the closure caused by the corona crisis: a painting is currently on display in the shop window, which gives an insight into the museum in the passage between Domplatz and Kiliansplatz, reports the press service of the Ordinariate. On display is “Streaking Thunderstorm”, which Wolfgang Mattheuer created in 1987 with oil paints on canvas.

“We will show originals from the temporarily closed permanent exhibition in about a fortnightly change. Hundreds of people can see them every day, separated only by a glass pane,” explains Dr. Jürgen Emmert, provisional director of the art department of the Würzburg diocese. Those responsible had chosen the Mattheuer plant at the beginning of the campaign because it shows a rainbow as the central motif. “This symbolizes the beginning of a better time full of light and confidence.” Of course, as with other works that are put in the shop window, all conservation issues would be taken into account, says Emmert.
