SV Werder Bremen will have to do without central defender Milos Veljkovic at least in their home game against FC Schalke 04. As Bremen announced on Tuesday evening, the 26-year-old suffered a muscle injury in the Serbian national team and now has to undergo individual rehabilitation measures.

Injured with the national team

With a goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic in the 90th minute, Serbia surprisingly won 2-1 against the favored Portuguese last Sunday and thus secured the ticket for the World Cup in Qatar. Bremen’s central defender Milos Veljkovic, who had initially been in the starting line-up, did not hear the cheers from his teammates on the pitch. The 26-year-old had to be replaced after an hour due to an injury and will now miss the North Germans at least next Saturday in the duel between the relegated Bundesliga and FC Schalke 04.

Studies have shown a muscle injury in Veljkovic, which is now to be cured through individual rehabilitation measures. The SVW announced on Tuesday evening. However, the club did not provide any further information about the exact length of the downtime. Veljkovic, who has been under contract with Bremen since 2016, has played in eleven league games so far this season and prepared one goal. In order to Marco Friedl (Corona disease) another potential central defender fails and Ömer Toprak is still not one hundred percent fit again, Markus at the beginning no longer has many alternatives against the royal blues.
