Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Player Manchester United, Wout Weghorst took the action of kissing the ball which became a source of disaster for Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, London, Sunday (23/4).
MU, who received fierce resistance from Brighton, won via a penalty shoot-out. The Red Devils won 7-6 after a scoreless draw for 120 minutes of play.
Reported from Sport BibleWeghorst is suspected to be one of the figures that determined MU’s success in advancing to the FA Cup final.
The player who was on loan from Burnley came on as a substitute in this match. The Dutch striker replaced Bruno Fernandes in the first half of extra time.
Weghorst then advanced as United’s sixth kicker in the shootout. He carried out the task well because his shot was unable to read Brighton goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.
After scoring, Weghorst held onto the ball he had just kicked. Weghorst then kissed the ball and then gave it to Brighton’s seventh kicker, Solly March.
Whether by coincidence or not, March failed to carry out his duties as the seventh executor of The Seagulls. His shot was just over the crossbar which was escorted by David de Gea.
That moment was not wasted by Victor Lindelof, who advanced as MU’s seventh kicker. The Swede was able to outwit Sanchez and lead MU to a 7-6 win over Roberto De Zerbi’s team.
MU players including Weghorst were also dissolved in joy. Meanwhile, March looked so devastated because he was the reason Brighton failed to qualify for the FA Cup final.
The Red Devils will face city rivals Manchester City in the top party. The duel between the two teams will take place at Wembley Stadium, 3 June.
