Brazilian central defender Murilo recalled, in an interview with ‘ESPN Brasil’, the day he had to mark Cristiano Ronaldo in a game that pitted Juventus and Lokomotiv Moscow in 2019/20 and which, to this day, remains in the defender’s memory. “I had to mark him individually in the [grande] area. The moment when he came up dribbling one-on-one was complicated, due to his quality and the responsibility I had in marking him”, began by explaining Murilo, aged 26. And continued: “He played more inside from the area and didn’t touch the ball as much. When the ball went into the area you had to try to cancel it, otherwise he would do it. [golo]… (laughs) As I’m a big fan of his, I knew he jumped a lot. I just thought ‘I can’t let him jump’. Then she started grabbing him to make him angry. It was a good and memorable game for me”, recalled the central defender, who considered CR7 the most difficult player to have ever scored in Europe.
“That’s what made me most tense. Not tense on the field, but tense from being there thinking I had to mark him. But he was very ‘stressed’. As we speak the same language, [percebi que] He talked to Éder, who was from our team and the Portuguese national team. He was pretty upset because we were too far back,” he concluded.
It should be noted that, in the game in question, Juventus ended up getting the better of Lokomotiv (2-1) with a brace from Paulo Dybala.
