Michael Murillo is having a particularly poor season at RSC Anderlecht. Against OHL he failed with a stupid red card. The attacking defender is just a shadow of the player he was in Brussels last season. That’s no big surprise, though.
Murillo came to Anderlecht at the beginning of 2020 and immediately showed his qualities. Technically good, attacking and also eager defensively. Anderlecht seemed to have made a bargain of 680,000 euros. One of the first data transfers and the Brussels cash register seemed to start ringing in due course.
However, Murillo has been on the loose for months. With 1 goal and 4 assists in 17 matches, the attacking figures are still fine, but the Panamanian is too often defensive.
Need for a strong competitor
Moreover, he is casual about it at times. Defensively he is too often ringed, and it is no coincidence that Anderlecht have been associated with two Argentine right backs in recent weeks.
Killian Sardella doesn’t provide that competition and there is no other right back to challenge Murillo. The fact that Murillo needs to be stimulated does not seem to be a coincidence.
On Murillo’s arrival at Anderlecht, the American football journalist Charles Boehm told our editors the following: “There were some rumors about problems with his attitude and especially about his training zeal. He is a player with a lot of talent, but he can sometimes cause frustration with his game,” he explains.
There are no negative comments about the training work, but the Panamanian sometimes evokes the necessary frustrations with his nonchalant attitude and too passive defense. He will probably be suspended for a few weeks for his red card and then it will be up to Murillo to pick himself up. After all, the transfer market will be open again within two months…
