Swiss cyclist Muriel Furrer dies at 18
The world of cycling is once again dyed in mourning with the news of the death of the Swiss Muriel Furrer, 18 years old, who since yesterday was in critical condition after a fall during the junior women’s World Cup race Zurich Cycling Championship, as a result of which he suffered a serious head injury.
The UCI has confirmed through a statement the death this Friday of the Swiss cyclist in the University Hospital Zurichwhere she was admitted yesterday in critical condition after being rushed by helicopter. Furrer has not been able to overcome the consequences of the severe head trauma who suffered when he fell in a wooded area on the World Cup route.
“With the passing of Muriel Furrer, the international cycling community loses a cyclist with a bright future ahead of her“, says the UCI in its statement, in which it does not clarify the circumstances in which the fatal fall occurred.

With the passing of Muriel Furrer, the international cycling community loses a cyclist with a bright future ahead of her. The 18-year-old cyclist suffered a bad fall yesterday, Thursday 26 September, during the junior women’s road race and suffered a serious head injury before being airlifted to hospital in a very critical condition. Muriel Furrer died today at the University Hospital of Zurich.
The UCI and the Organizing Committee of the 2024 UCI Road Cycling and Paracycling Road World Championships offer their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Muriel Furrer, as well as to her Swiss Cycling Federation.
Muriel Furrer’s family asks that their privacy be respected at this very painful time.
