Muri near Bern: A clear yes to the overall renovation of the Melchenbühl school complex

The Melchenbühl school complex with a gymnasium and indoor swimming pool can be comprehensively renovated and the outdoor area redesigned: Voters approved the corresponding loan of 14.4 million francs with 93% yes votes. The two other voting proposals were also accepted.

With the yes to the commitment loan of 14.4 million francs, the way is clear for the overall renovation of the Melchenbühl school complex: the children will receive urgently needed group rooms and the teachers will receive workplaces and meeting rooms. Energy measures will ensure pleasant temperatures in school rooms in the future. Shady areas and attractive niches for outdoor lessons are created around the school building. Thanks to the renewal of the building envelope and the energy supply, operating and maintenance costs are reduced and CO2 emissions are reduced.

Construction work will start in summer 2024 and will last around a year. During this time, school lessons take place in a container school with a covered outdoor area. Together with the early conversion of the neighboring former church community center, the overall renovation of the Melchenbühl school complex will ensure the medium and long-term school space requirements in the district.

The two other voting proposals from December 10th were also adopted:

Electronic publication: From 2024, the municipality’s approximately 100 official notices will no longer appear in paper form, but rather electronically on a publication platform accessible via the Internet: With 76% yes votes, voters have the right to adapt the municipal code and the regulations on political rights appropriate basis created.

Significant savings are possible by switching to electronic publication. In the future, local news (LoNa) will refer to the official publications on www.epublikation.ch. These publications can also be viewed at the municipal administration office. The digital version is decisive.

Change of civil protection organization: The municipality of Muri can withdraw from the municipal association of the Regional Competence Center for Civil Protection Bern-Mittelland (RKZ-BBM) at the end of 2025. Voters decided this with 92% yes votes. As of January 1, 2025, the community will join the civil protection organization Bern plus.(pd)
