Murder suspicion: man should be permanently in psychiatry – dpa

DThe public prosecutor’s office in Mannheim has applied for the permanent placement of a man suspected of murder in a psychiatric ward. The 32-year-old is said to have raped and killed a woman in October 2021 and attacked and robbed women in two other cases, prosecutors said on Tuesday. The prosecution accuses him of murder, rape, robbery and assault. According to a report, the man is said to be incapacitated due to a mental illness. The district court of Mannheim is to decide on the application. The suspect is currently in a psychiatric ward.

According to the information, the 32-year-old slept in the attic of an apartment building in Mannheim on the night of October 19, 2021. In the morning he is said to have rang the bell of a resident of the house who was on the phone with a friend. She put the phone aside and opened the door. The man reportedly stormed into the apartment, pushed her to the ground and then allegedly abused and then strangled her when she started screaming. He left the apartment before the police arrived, who were notified by the girlfriend.

The day before, the suspect is said to have followed a woman from Heidelberg Central Station to her apartment. He punched the woman in the face several times, according to prosecutors, and stole her backpack, which contained a wallet, money and a laptop.

The day after the act in Mannheim, the man is said to have attacked a woman in Krefeld. During the robbery, he is said to have kicked her in the face with his knee. According to the information, she suffered a bruised cheekbone and jaw joint. He is also said to have stolen the woman’s phone. Police officers found the phone when the suspect was arrested in Duisburg in November.
