Murder suspect in Noord home had ‘pieces of meat’ in luggage, possibly human remains

The man who was arrested yesterday in Portugal on suspicion of murdering the 21-year-old man in Noord, had taken ‘pieces of meat’ in his suitcase, among other things. Portuguese customs reports this today. It is currently being investigated whether these are human remains, a spokesperson told AT5.

The man was arrested yesterday afternoon. Earlier in the day it became clear that the victim, who was found dead in his home on Vegasstraat on Monday, had died as a result of a crime.

The suspect is said to be on his way to Belo Horizonte in Brazil. According to customs, he stood out because he showed a forged Italian ID at Lisbon airport. Because the man lives in the Netherlands, the Dutch authorities were then contacted, who in turn announced that they were looking for the suspect.

Luggage

Later, clothes with traces of blood, a plastic package with ‘pieces of meat’, were found in the man’s luggage the press release to read.

It is not clear whether this concerns the remains of the victim. Several Portuguese media report that this is the case. A spokesman for Customs told AT5 that this still needs to be investigated.

Hopital

According to customs, the man was treated in hospital today because he had injuries to his hand. By the end of the afternoon he was discharged there.

The man is currently stuck in Portugal. There he must appear before the court, which determines whether the man may be extradited to the Netherlands.
