Murder-Suicide in Park Slope: Latest Tragic Incident in Rising New York City Violence

A man and a woman were found dead with gunshot wounds to the head. this morning in an apartment in Brooklyn (NYC), a case that authorities are investigating as a homicide-suicide.

Officers responded to a call at the apartment located at 2nd Street and 5th Avenue in Park Slope shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday and found two 34-year-old people — a woman and a man — “unconscious and unresponsive,” police sources said.

Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s wound appeared to be self-inflicted and there was a firearm next to his body, he noted. New York Post.

The identities of the deceased have not been shared publicly pending family notification. In recent days several bodies have been found inside apartments in New York: On Friday night a woman was fatally stabbed, her son was seriously hospitalized and her dog died after being thrown from an 11th floor in Brooklyn.

The next day a decomposing woman was found stuffed in the garbage inside a home in The Bronx. And on Monday night the dismembered body of a man was found inside the refrigerator of an apartment in Brooklyn.

Domestic violence is common in New York City and surrounding areas, between relatives, roommates and partners, even with minor victims. Every day in NYC, an average of about 747 incidents of domestic violence, including assaults, abuse, verbal abuse, and about 65 homicides annually.

In other recent cases of homicide-suicide, last week a Hispanic woman killed her daughters and her husband and then took her own life inside her home in Union (New Jersey) after receiving an eviction order, authorities reported.

In late December, a father, mother and their two children were found shot to death inside their home in New City, New York. Apparently the man shot his relatives and then himself.
