Rabeel Arshad’s husband himself showed up at the local police station and reported the murder in the middle of the day on March 21. He is in custody, and has acknowledged the facts, but claims he acted in self-defense.

– He has admitted that he probably killed her – but when it comes to the question of criminal guilt, he has not admitted subjective guilt, says Aase Karine Sigmond, defender of the man in his 30s, to Dagbladet.

Police do not see any connection between the two killings, which occurred nine years apart. They stated at an early stage in the investigation that Rabeel Arshad in 2011 reported the husband for domestic violencea relationship that was eventually dropped.

On the night of 28 September 2013, Mohammad Arshad was found ill-prepared near the family home in Manglerud, and died from the injuries he had sustained, after being assaulted by several people.

Four men with a connection to the gang environment in Oslo were convicted of causing the restaurant owner’s death. The investigation revealed that the night of the murder was actually in search of his son, with whom they had a minor disagreement.

– Did not mean to kill

Father and son had the same car at their disposal, and the men followed the car from Waldemars to Manglerud – where Mohammad Arshad was subjected to such severe violence that he died. Among other things, he was beaten with a wrench.

In Oslo District Court the now convicted men denied that they intended to kill.

– The worst thoughts that went through my head were that he should be paralyzed or have his legs broken or similar, it was not my thoughts that he could be killed, one explained.

Very popular

The restaurant owner had no connection to crime, and was very popular with customers and employees at Waldemars, where he was often found behind the bar himself.

– Arshad was a super boss, a very decent person, says the now retired former bar manager at Waldemars to Dagbladet.

The late Rabeel Arshad and her husband have three minor children. They are taken care of by her family.

– They are very affected by the tragic incident, but are fine according to the circumstances, the children’s assistance lawyer Christian Lundin informs Dagbladet.

She also met her now-murdered husband a few times.

. He seemed very sympathetic, and I did not notice anything unusual. He was not the type to have a criminal record, says the retired bar manager.

– I read about the report of violence, but I know nothing about it. I talked a lot with [Mohammad] Arshad, but he never mentioned him.

The male former employee also remembers Rabeel Arshad’s husband.

– I met him on a couple of occasions – he was a very anonymous type, the man says to Dagbladet.
