Murder of Mano Guerfi in Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre in 2018: the wife acquitted by the Assize Court of Appeal

Twenty years of criminal imprisonment. When the verdict fell on July 1, 2021, after seven hours of deliberation, Donyazad Guerfi’s shoulders slumped slightly. This is the only reaction she let appear.

Throughout the trial for the murder of her husband, at the Assize Court, in Chartres, she showed no emotion.

Ten years of criminal imprisonment

At his side, in the dock, his daughter, Inès, could not hold back a sigh of relief when she heard the word she was hoping for: acquitted!
These seven hours of deliberation prove to what extent the jurors of the assize court hesitated between two theses.

That of the girl who allegedly killed her father, Mano Guerfi, in the early morning of January 7, 2018, in the family home of Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre, as she had confessed to investigators. Or that of the mother who later accused herself of the murder, perhaps to save her daughter?

Faced with the height of the sentence to which she was sentenced, Donyazad Guerfi appealed. The prosecution has also decided to do the same, so that the two women are again judged together.

Last week, before the Assize Court of Appeal, in Versailles, Donyazad Guerfi was cleared. The jurors considered that it was indeed Inès Guerfi who had stabbed her father fatally.

She was sentenced to ten years in prison. While she appeared free, she was imprisoned after the hearing.

The mother, Donyazad Guerfi, was released after four and a half years in detention.
