The victim was killed in a particularly cruel way, the law provides for up to 20 years in prison or a life sentence
The Bulgarian Veselin K. was detained in London for a murder committed 24 years ago in Hisarya, and the corpse was discovered 14 months later in a freezer. This happened in 2017, after which the High Magistrates of Great Britain refused to execute the European Arrest Warrant issued by Bulgaria because it was not confirmed by our court.
According to “24 Chasa” information, Veselin K. spent some time in English custody and was then released.
A new arrest warrant has now been issued, requesting that he be handed over to Bulgarian justice. It was confirmed by both the District Court and the Court of Appeal in Plovdiv.
Veselin K. was charged with murder, committed in a particularly painful way for the victim and with particular cruelty, with a selfish purpose and under the conditions of a dangerous relapse. The body was discovered in 2001 in a freezer, disconnected from the electricity network, located in a house in the “Momina Banya” district in Hisarya. It was established from the performed triple forensic medical examination that the death occurred about 14 months before the body was discovered and was due to multiple severe craniocerebral injuries to the head and face and lacerations in the neck area. The discovery was made after citizens reported a theft in the house in question. During the inspection, the investigators found the body.
Fingerprints of Veselin K., who lived with the owner of the apartment, were found in the house. The victim is precisely the owner of the property.
Veselin K. was arrested and charged with murder. Later, the pre-trial proceedings against him were dropped due to lack of evidence. It has since been resumed and discontinued several times.
In 2016, the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office “unfroze” him again.
This offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years, life imprisonment or life imprisonment without parole. From the evidence collected in the case, it can be reasonably assumed that Veselin was complicit in the crime he was accused of. There is also a risk of absconding, given his residence abroad. The decision of the Court of Appeal is final.
