Haitian police said on Monday that they had arrested the head of the presidential security guard while continuing the investigation into the assassination of President Jovenell Moiz on July 7.
The president’s security chief, Jean Lagell Sivil, is suspected of involvement in a conspiracy that led to a group of unidentified people being attacked at Moiz’s private residence at night and shot. The invaders bypassed the presidential guard without a single shot.
Civil is placed in a solitary confinement prison in the town of Delma near Port-au-Prince.
Port-au-Prince Police Commissioner Me Bedfor Claude had already ordered immigration authorities to ban four police officers in charge of Moiza’s guards from leaving the country.
Police on Monday also issued an arrest warrant for Supreme Court Justice Wendel Kok Telot, who was released by Moiza.
The details of Moiza’s murder are still unclear, but the newly appointed prime minister, Ariel Henri, has promised to bring the killers to justice.
Police have detained about 20 Colombian mercenaries who took part in a conspiracy organized by a Haitian group with contacts abroad.
