Murcia lives another atypical festival without the Pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Fuensanta | Radio Murcia

From early in the morning of this Tuesday, many people were waiting at the doors of the cathedral to see the patron saint, the Virgen de la Fuensanta, although due to the health crisis the organization has decided that the capacity is limited to one hundred people.

The door to Plaza de la Cruz of the cathedral opened at 7 in the morning and will remain open until 9 at night, and during all this time all citizens who wish to will be able to see the “Morenica”. The entrance is through the door of the Plaza de la Cruz with exit through the Plaza de los Apóstoles.

The use of hydroalcoholic gel and the mask on are being the minimum elements required to be able to see the Virgen de la Fuensanta.

Throughout today nine religious events will be held in the cathedral.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, has made this Tuesday an appeal to responsibility and launched a message of encouragement and hope to Murcian families, through a Bando signed on the occasion of the pilgrimage day, in which he stressed that “Despite all the difficulties and the uncertainty, the light of Murcia, the one that always accompanies us, continues to shine and we will celebrate our Pilgrimage again.”

This year, given the exceptional circumstances caused by the pandemic, the City Council, together with the Diocese of Cartagena, suspended the Pilgrimage, but, “however, we must have more alive than ever, in our memory, those Murcia sunrises in which our parents and grandparents took us to meet our Patron, “said the Murcian councilor.

The mayor of Murcia has published a video on his social networks with the Bando’s message, in which he explains that “today is a day in which the unity and identity of the people of Murcia is manifested in all its splendor, through the emotion, faith and gratitude. This stoppage caused by the health crisis is just a hard and difficult parenthesis, which we will soon leave behind. “

He has also referred to the pilgrimage route, describing it as “the rains of petals over La Morenica and the aroma of the mountain, the brief stops along the way to regain strength, the complicit conversations with our relatives, the beauty of the Murcian landscape, the affectionate greetings from so many friends and acquaintances that we met on the road that day “.

“We will share again this day that we discovered with our parents and grandparents, and today, tomorrow and we will always share with our children and grandchildren,” he indicated.
