PESCARA – The cloudy water found in the Gran Sasso tunnel did not end up in the taps of Teramo residents. But its causes are still unclear: this – reports Ansa – is what emerged in the inspection carried out yesterday in the tunnel by the extraordinary commissioner for the safety of the Gran Sasso water system Pierluigi Caputi with the technical managers of Ruzzo Reti and those of Italferr – the company that is carrying out the preliminary surveys for the safety of the aquifer – as well as the managers of the Sian hygiene service of the ASL of Teramo.
“The inspection dispelled any possible doubt by excluding any connection between the water problem and Italferr’s activities”, begins the note from Commissioner Caputi. Which explains: “The increase in the value of the water turbidity occurred before the start of any operational activity by Italferr and the subjects appointed by the latter. The interventions were agreed on this observation and everyone appreciated the timeliness and management efficiency of Ruzzo Reti. In fact, the cloudy water was never introduced into the water network, as later stated by the managing body in an official note.”
Caputi adds: “The episode of the clouding of the water in the pipe beneath the roadway led to the suspension of the construction site and represents a further tangible demonstration of the great vulnerability of the entire system which today allows the water from the Gran Sasso to reach citizens’ taps and confirms the absolute necessity of work to secure the drinking water resource. During the inspection, we learned of the oscillation of the turbidity of the water from values well below the legal threshold to peaks that determine the discharge of the water, which occurred in a situation of absolute absence of vehicles and people in the tunnel for days. , therefore it was agreed that it is a problem that Ruzzo Reti must address in order to understand its causes and remedies. The loyal collaboration that has manifested itself since the appointment of the extraordinary commissioner is in these situations a prerequisite for addressing the problems”.
