Münster’s Narrow Defeat: Frustration and Bad Luck on the Pitch

I’ve given everything – and yet nothing…

A week after the narrow 0-1 defeat at leaders Dresden, third division promoted Münster experienced déjà vu against the second-place team.

1:2 defeat in Regensburg. Prussia is out of luck.

Once again, head coach Sascha Hildmann’s (51) boys were completely on par with the clear favorites for 96 minutes. They were even outnumbered in the final phase because captain Thomas Kok (24) was shown the red card after a stick error and subsequent emergency brake against Jahn striker Agyemang Diawusie (25/70). Rightly so, referee Daniel Bartnitzki (27/Erfurt), in his third third league appearance, had no choice but to reach into his back trouser pocket after this action.

Really annoying, because after eleven minutes the Eagles had already lost a top performer, Sebastian Mrowca (29), with suspected torn fibers in his left calf. The experienced midfielder faces a mandatory break of several weeks, while Kok is expected to be suspended for two games.

Hildmann was correspondingly disappointed in front of the Magenta Sport microphone after the final whistle: “My team left their hearts on the pitch, invested everything and gave it their all. I can’t blame her at all. In the end, however, little things and mistakes decide such a close game. And unfortunately we did more of that.”

Like before the Regensburg tour. Yassine Bouchama (25) misses a safe ball in the halffield, allowing opponent Christian Viet (24) to cross. It somehow slips through Münster’s penalty area so that Dominik Kother (23) at the far post can push the ball over the line unmarked. A typical dust-up goal – like Dynamo’s winning goal.

All the more bitter because the eagle bearers had the better chances overall. Malik “Batman” Batmaz (23) alone could have easily and easily stoked his next hat-trick – if not even had to. But the nimble striker is currently suffering from bad luck. First, in the 54th minute, after a fine individual performance, he hit the left outside post with a low shot, before exactly 112 seconds later, after a pass from Benjamin Böckle (21), he aimed unchallenged from eleven meters over the crossbar.

When Jahn keeper Felix Gebhard (21) finally punched his header out of the box from three meters with a classy save in the 86th minute to secure the equalizer, it was finally a “used day” for Batmaz and his Prussians.

Nevertheless, they never gave up and continued to throw everything forward even after the late 0:2 – again through Kother (92′). But Simon Scherder’s (30/96) header was ultimately nothing more than a consolation.

While the Regensburg team climbed to the top of the league with their sixth win in a row, at least for a few hours (Dresden doesn’t play in Saarbrücken until Sunday), the beaten “Black-White-Greens” set off with hanging heads and without the hoped-for points in their luggage long journey back through the night to Münster. Batmaz frustrated: “Of course, an eight-hour bus ride hurts twice as much after a game like that. Even though we were able to prove that we could keep up well over long stretches of the match.”

True! Especially in the first half, both teams neutralized each other and most of the action took place between penalty areas. Goal scenes are in absolute short supply. After the restart, the guests clearly determined what was happening – including their double chance from Batman. It wasn’t until Jahn made it 1-0 that the game tipped over…

Hildmann: “We have to draw the positive aspects from this – as we did after Dresden – and try to make it better and more successful next week.” Then third-placed SSV Ulm will come to Hammer Straße (Sunday, 4:30 p.m ). The fellow promoted team suffered an unexpected 2-3 home defeat against Halleschen FC, so they are certainly vulnerable. Especially with the support of your own fans!

All together for Prussia Münster…
