The Municipal Government urged citizens to participate in the campaign “Unidos vs. breast cancer ”, with which different actions will be implemented and information will be disseminated to help prevent the disease.
The prevention campaign, organized through the Commission for Women and Gender Equity and various municipal agencies, will officially begin tomorrow, October 1 at 8:00 in the morning with the flyer of recommendations and information on the subject on Avenida Juárez, in the center of the city.
Patricia Mendoza, coordinator of the organizing committee, said that the goal is to detect cancer in time to save women’s lives, so October will be the “Pink Month” to raise awareness among the general public to self-explore.
The head of the Municipal Health Directorate, Daphne Santana Fernández, invited the residents of Juarez to go to the medical units to be treated on time.
María Antonieta Mendoza Mendoza, general director of Community Centers, said that The Municipal Government has a team specialized in cancer detection in the Olivia Espinoza, Palo Chino and Kilometer 27 community centers where mammograms can be performed at no cost; The facilities at Kilometer 27 and Olivia also have breast ultrasound services.
The official added that people who lack a vehicle to go to any of those venues they can register at their nearest community center to be transferred for free.
Gabriela Cisneros, Health Coordinator for Community Centers, explained that risk factors for breast cancer increase if the woman has a family history of breast cancer, also if she menstruated before age 12, become a mother after age 30 or never having breastfed, late menopause, and smoking.
