On the front door of the party office was written ‘fascist’ on Monday. A banner was also attached to the building, on which the names of Baudet and Putin were written with a heart in between.
The graffiti probably took place in the night from Sunday to Monday. FvD had demonstrated a few hours earlier at the Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen, in front of De Balie. There just had it final debateorganized by The Parool and De Balie, took place. Eleven party leaders debated each other, the last time before the municipal election in Amsterdam.
FvD was, to the great dismay of the party, not invited. According to director Yoeri Albrecht of De Balie, FvD was not invited because the party is too small and had too little input in the city council over the past four years.
The demonstration by FvD also brought counter-protesters to De Balie. The police were present in large numbers on Sunday evening to keep the peace between the two parties. It is not known whether the demonstration of the FvD was the reason to daub the party office.
Previous daubs
Earlier this year, the party office of FvD was also daubed. This happened while the party was campaigning in the Westerpark. Video images that FvD distributed at the time showed a group of people walking past the building in a procession and throwing paint and fireworks at the building. Officers who accompanied the demonstration did not intervene at the time.
In 2017, the house of party leader Thierry Baudet was also defaced. An anarchist sign and the female symbol were then applied to his front door in pink paint. On the website IndyMedia, the action group Radical Anarchist Feminist Front confessed to being behind the graffiti. ‘We are protesting with this action against the pernicious ideas of Baudet,’ the group wrote at the time. It is not known whether the action group has anything to do with the latest graffiti.
FvD leader Thierry Baudet said in a response that he has filed a report. He called the daubing a “trend” that “fits into a pattern of threats and demonization.” According to Baudet, a ‘cancel culture’ in the Netherlands means that ‘no normal debate can be conducted’ and ‘this should not be the future in the Netherlands’.
A police spokesperson said Monday morning that it was still unclear who was behind the graffiti.
