The uncertainty regarding the next edition of the Viña Festival has generated friction between the organizers after TVN and Channel 13 asked to suspend the event and the Municipality decided to continue with the plan despite the pandemic.
According Third, the executive directors of the channels in charge of the contest they sent a letter to Virginia Reginato requesting that the event not take place in February for the first time in 60 years of history.
The reasons given include equipment relocation problems from Santiago to Viña del Mar; the complexity of adding international artists; and that insurance policies they would not cover the costs of an eventual suspension.
“The obligation of the channels is to carry out the Festival, produce it and transmit it on television and radio in the month of February of each year”the Director of Concessions of the Municipality of Viña del Mar, Mario Araya, told LT.
“For this Municipality it is not legally plausible to agree to a suspension of the event, since, first of all, we are in the month of August and, by experience, a Festival of the Song can be produced, carried out and fine-tuned until November and December of each year and even more“added Araya.
For her part, Mayor Reginato declared that “concessionaires have the obligation to produce, organize and transmit the Festival. At this point in the year, their role is to present a concrete proposal to the municipality, not excuses“.
