The vehicle, capable of being used on a variety of terrains, was delivered during an official ceremony at the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters, in the presence of ELAS Chief Dimitris Mallios and the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.
The Mayor of Pylaia-Hortiatis, Ignatios Kaitezidis, underlined the importance of this move, stressing that the patrol car “is friendly to the environment, but hostile to crime”. The aim of the donation is to shield the neighborhoods of the municipality and provide citizens with a greater sense of security. According to the unanimous decision of the Municipal Council, the vehicle will be used exclusively for policing needs within the Municipality of Pylaia-Hortiatis, offering additional resources to fight crime in the area.
This particular donation is also a symbolic thank you to the police officers serving in the area and to the leadership of the Hellenic Police, who, according to the mayor, have managed to reduce crime by 70% in the last period. “For the first time in years, police units are appearing in neighborhoods in a way that prevents crime,” Kaitesidis noted, highlighting the role of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and special units.
The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, expressed his gratitude to the mayor for his initiative, recalling that strengthening the security of cities was one of his main promises when he took office eight months ago. Chrysochoidis emphasized that Thessaloniki is becoming increasingly safe, while the efforts of the police to fight crime will continue uninterrupted.
During the ceremony, the General Police Director of Thessaloniki, Giorgos Papadopoulos, presented an honorary plaque to the mayor for his continuous support to the work of the Hellenic Police.
