Municipality of Malevizi: Legislative regulation for compensations from the port zone – 2024-08-08 09:12:21

“We continue our claims and proceed with documented interventions in the dialogue with the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy. In Athens today, with the Minister Mr. Christos Stylianidis, we agreed on the elaboration of a legislative regulation that will respond to the constant request of the Municipality of Malevizi for the return of fixed compensatory revenues to the local community that is most affected by the disturbing activities of the port zone”, said the Mr. Bokeas.

Response of the Ministry

Mr. Stylianidis acknowledged the great burden that the Malevizi Municipality has shouldered for decades, without having received any compensatory benefits to date. It was agreed that a legislative regulation will be worked out in order to provide fixed compensatory income to the Municipality from the operation of the Linoperamaton Land Zone. Until the legislative process is completed, the new state port management agency will generate the necessary revenue through programmatic contracts, which will be used for maintenance and upgrade projects in the area.

Representation of the Municipality

Another important issue that was discussed was the active and substantial representation of Malevizi Municipality in the new state port management body. The Minister of Shipping was positive to the Mayor’s request for the participation of the Municipality in the management of the Land Zone.

Thanks and Cooperation

Mayor Maleviziou warmly thanked Minister Christos Stylianidis and Secretary General Mr. Kyriazopoulos for the kind cooperation and the positive steps in the dialogue. He also addressed special thanks to the deputies of Heraklion, Mr. Maximos Senetakis and Mr. Konstantinos Kefalogiannis, for their presence at the meeting and their support, as well as to Mr. Lefteris Avgenakis, Mr. Eleni Vatsina, Mr. Francis Parasiri and Mr. Harry Mamoulaki for their interventions at all levels.

This agreement is an important step for the relief and development of the local community, enhancing the quality of life of the residents and supporting the economic development of the region.
