The municipality of Eersel will remove dogs from the controversial dog breeder in the municipality. The breeder has not been allowed to keep dogs commercially since May, but continues to do so. The controversial breeder must also pay 25,000 euros in penalty payments.
In February, the Council of State ruled that the man had to stop his company in mid-March. He refused, as a result of which he had to pay several penalty payments. For every week that the breeder was in violation, he had to pay an amount of 2,500 euros, for a maximum of ten weeks.
After the eight municipal penalty payments, the NVWA intervened in May. The supervisor removed all the dogs because they were said to be in bad condition. The breeder has since been banned from keeping dogs for the time being. But municipal boas recently discovered eight new dogs.
The maximum amount of the penalty payments, 25,000 euros, was thus reached. The municipality of Eersel is now taking extra measures and will remove the eight dogs. It is not yet known when this will happen.
The case came to light through undercover work by animal campaign group House of Animals. Whistleblowers had previously raised the alarm with the group. The report about the eight new dogs at the breeder was also passed on to House of Animals.
