On Saturday afternoon, the municipality of Amsterdam will put a large group of demonstrators on the Leidsekade in the center of the capital in buses to move them. The group of about a thousand protesters against the corona measures was previously trapped on the dock by the mobile unit (riot police). One by one they are loaded into the tugged city buses.
An emergency order has been issued again, the municipality reports on Twitter. “The triangle issues an emergency order on the Leidsekade. The group of more than a thousand people are asked to follow the instructions of the police. The people will be moved by buses. Mouth masks will be provided.”
The municipality does not say where the protesters will be taken, but it is usually to an area on the outskirts of the city.
The Museumplein became empty in the course of the afternoon. The group set in motion after police reported that everyone would be arrested. When the first demonstrators were arrested, hundreds of people walked in the direction of Van Baerlestraat.
Police deployed water cannons during evacuation
The crowd had gathered on Museumplein to demonstrate against the corona measures. Since the protest was not registered, it was banned and the police intervened with water cannons, among other things.
It is not clear how many people have been arrested. Recently there have been weekly demonstrations on the Museumplein, in which there have been several confrontations between demonstrators and the riot police.
