The City Council of Lamego is rehabilitating the Fonte do Espírito Santo, in a total investment of 28 thousand and 500 euros.

The conservation and restoration work at Fonte do Espírito Santo “is proceeding at a good pace, an intervention that respects the authenticity of the original materials and which should be completed by next June”, the municipality said in a statement.

Rehabilitation of this historic fountain in the city of Lamego was necessary after a road accident that brought down part of the structure and caused significant damage.

“The Fountain of Espírito Santo is one of the most emblematic fountains in the city of Lamego and a meeting place for locals and visitors. Its water is much sought after to quench thirst. Soon, we will return this ex-libris to the population, with all its beauty and magnificence, after the completion of the rehabilitation works”, says President Francisco Lopes.

The works in progress include the maintenance and conservation of the undamaged parts, in charge of a specialized company. The stonework is also being cleaned and weeding vegetation is being removed.

Made according to a design by the artist João Amaral, born in Lamego, the Fonte do Espírito Santo was transferred in 1928 to its current location.
