Oaxaca de Juárez, Oax., August 5, 2024.- The Oaxaca de Juárez City Council, led by municipal president Francisco Martínez Neri, continues to demonstrate its commitment to the environment and the improvement of the city’s green spaces.
In a constant and planned manner, the Secretariat of Environment and Climate Change, in coordination with the Secretariat of Municipal Services, applies nutrients to the base of century-old trees, to preserve the well-being of the species located in the Zócalo and the Alameda.
On this occasion, the third fertilization of the year was carried out early in order to take advantage of the rainy season, allowing nutrients to be better absorbed by the 96 trees located in the heart of Oaxaca de Juárez. This action is part of the Comprehensive Urban Tree Management Plan, which seeks to strengthen and preserve the vegetation of public spaces.
Elsa Ortiz Rodríguez, Secretary of Environment and Climate Change, explained that this is the third fertilization so far in 2024 and includes the application of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, boron, manganese, among others. These elements are essential to fix nutrients in the soil and in the roots of the trees, ensuring their optimal development and health.
“The early start of these works is due to the rainy season, which allows nutrients to be better absorbed by the soil and tree roots. This joint effort reflects our commitment to the environment and to keeping the green spaces of our city in the best possible condition,” said Ortiz Rodríguez.
It is worth noting that the Comprehensive Urban Tree Management Plan contains the scientific route to follow to conserve and strengthen the presence of trees in the city environment, so that it is an instrument that aims to mitigate climate change on the planet and is a valuable guide that is a reference in the metropolitan area of the capital.
With these actions, the City Council of Oaxaca de Juárez reaffirms its dedication to the protection and care of the environment, guaranteeing a more sustainable environment for all its inhabitants and for future generations.
