The municipality has announced a broad recovery plan for the cultural sector in the city. The 2021 recovery plan should help to preserve jobs, encourage cultural visits and give the sector room to adapt to the corona measures.

This is the second support package for the culture sector. Previously, 17 million euros was released from the municipal emergency fund of 50 million euros to offset some of the losses suffered by cultural institutions due to the corona crisis.
So far, 62 institutions have been able to receive an additional contribution totaling € 11.3 million. The remaining amount of 5.7 million will be carried over to 2021 and will be part of next year’s recovery plan. This will be an addition to the budget of 15.7 million euros that will be released from the government for the Amsterdam cultural sector.
The municipality hopes with the remaining amount from the emergency fund and the financial contribution from the government to alleviate the worst emergency in the cultural sector, but immediately adds that this will not be enough to help everyone. ‘Amsterdam will continue to hold talks with the government and the province for extra support.’
