Municipalities will enforce corona pass | Inland

This came from the consultation between the Ministry of Justice and Security and the chairs of the Security Council on Wednesday evening. According to the ministry, this “does justice” to the efforts that entrepreneurs and institutions are making “to comply with the measures.”

The cabinet previously announced that it would allocate 45 million euros to help with the enforcement of the corona admission ticket. “This money can be used for, for example, security guards, inspectors or hosts who help entrepreneurs with the control of the CTB,” according to the Ministry of Justice. It is not yet known how that money will be distributed.

Halsema backs out

The approach means that mayor Halsema of Amsterdam, who blew high from the tower last week that she would not actively enforce the corona pass, will retrace her steps. Catering establishments that would only check one in ten customers had nothing to fear. The municipality would only act in case of excesses, Halsema announced.

In a letter to the city council, the mayor of Amsterdam takes a completely different tone on Wednesday evening. “Ensuring compliance with these rules is a matter for all of us. In the first place for visitors to the catering industry.”

Horeca unhappy

Many sectors that have to check the corona pass say they are very unhappy with the policy. According to Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, the industry is already confronted with cancellations.

“Financial support is no longer necessary, according to the cabinet, because everyone can do business freely again, but in the meantime the cancellations due to the QR code are enormous: from weddings and parties to lunches and dinners,” KHN director Dirk Beljaarts told De Telegraaf.

KHN also does not consider enforcement a task for a ‘hospitable catering industry’, all the more so because the sector is also struggling with staff shortages.
