The regional department for local bodies and sport of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano – South Tyrol already paid the municipalities a first installment totaling 21.5 million euros in 2020. After signing a further supplementary agreement on community financing in 2021, the second installment of over 12 million euros can now be paid out. The highest amounts of this (between 505,000 and 988,000 euros) go to tourist strongholds, where the shortfalls in accommodation and gastronomy are particularly reflected in the municipal real estate tax.
The state is making a further 3.8 million euros available to the municipalities to cushion the additional costs for snow removal in winter 2020/21. In numerous municipalities there was an above-average number of intense snowfalls. As a result, the cost of snow removal skyrocketed. While the municipalities spend around 12 million euros on snow removal in normal years, it was over 19 million euros last winter. The council of municipalities has therefore submitted an additional agreement to the state government under which the municipalities affected by the additional expenditure will be reimbursed half of the additional costs.
The state government has approved a corresponding supplementary agreement for municipal financing in 2021 and has made around 3.8 million euros available to cover half of the additional expenditure for snow removal in 2020/21.
