Municipalities on red alert for covid-19 drop to 49, despite being activated in Burela and Malpica

Galician municipalities on red alert due to the incidence of covid-19 have dropped to 49 this Tuesday, after several days of constant rise. Specifically, A Fonsagrada, A Estrada, Gondomar and Soutomaior have come out of this situation by having improved their data, while Burela and Malpica de Bergantiños have joined the list.

According to the ‘traffic light’ map updated daily by the Department of Health, the vast majority of municipalities in situation 3 due to the pandemic are located in the provinces of Pontevedra (21) and La Coruña (17), followed by Orense (6) and Lugo (5).

In Pontevedra, the provincial capital, Vigo, Baiona, Cambados, Cangas, A Cañiza, O Grove, Marín, Moaña, Nigrán, O Porriño, Poio, Ponteareas, Redondela, Ribadumia, Salvaterra de Miño, Tomiño, are on red alert this Tuesday. Tui, Vilagarcía de Arousa and A Guarda.

For its part, in La Coruña are the Herculean city, Santiago, Ferrol, Ames, Arteixo, Boqueixón, Cambre, Carballo, Culleredo, Fene, Narón, Oleiros, Ordes, Pontedeume, Teo, Vimianzo and Malpica.

In the province of Ourense, they are Orense, O Carballiño, Barbadás, Verín, Ribadavia and Xinzo de Limia; while in Lugo are Cervo, Monforte de Lemos, Viveiro, Burela and the capital.

The entry into the maximum risk level of all these localities implies that more than 21 cases of coronavirus were detected in the last seven days. However, in cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, the threshold to detect the warning depends on the size: Ferrol –more than 76 cases in a week–, Pontevedra –more than 96–, Santiago –more out of 112–, Lugo –more than 112–, Orense –more than 120 -, La Coruña –more than 276– and Vigo –more than 332–.

Meanwhile, in situation two – in the orange color of the map – there are 20 municipalities, the same number as on Monday. Half are in Pontevedra, as Caldas de Reis, Fornelos de Montes, Lalín, Silleda, Vilaboa and Cerdedo-Cotobade remain, while A Estrada, Gondomar have been added – for having improved their data on the pandemic in the last week -, Vilanova and Sanxenxo –for having made them worse.

In the case of La Coruña, Ares, Arzúa, Cerceda, Porto do Son, Sada and Valdoviño remain on orange alert, while Betanzos and Santa Comba have joined. In Lugo, only Bóveda and Cospeito are in this situation this Tuesday, while in Ourense there is no city council.
