Municipalities – Offenbach am Main:Pandemic: Test of a new approach route with less noise

Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – The sharp drop in air traffic makes it possible to test an approach route in the Rhine-Main area, from which several municipalities are hoping for less noise. The city of Offenbach announced on Wednesday that the so-called “Segmented Approach” will be tested all day from March. It’s about flying around Offenbach to the south, among others. When approaching Frankfurt Airport, the aircraft do not fly via Hanau, Mühlheim and Offenbach in the direction of Neu-Isenburg to the airport, but first over a forest area and Autobahn 3.

This is being tested for some of the aircraft, and Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) reckons with 25 to 50 aircraft per day, which currently corresponds to 12 to 25 percent of landing traffic. The city of Offenbach explained that no major effects are to be expected immediately. Before the pandemic, DFS had stated that there was no way of integrating the procedure into flight operations, given the high volume of air traffic at the time. The city hopes that after the trial, the route can be flown at least temporarily even when air traffic has increased again.
