Municipalities – Ludwigshafen am Rhein – Ludwigshafen sells stones from the demolished high road – Politics

Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) – For some it is a piece of city history, for others a crazy idea, for the third maybe a PR gag: After the partial demolition of Hochstraße Süd, the city of Ludwigshafen sells concrete blocks from the street as souvenirs.

The circulation of the certified chunks is limited to 250 pieces, said Markus Lemberger from the Congress and Marketing Society (Lukom). The “personal memento” is available from the central tourist information office from five euros, depending on the size. The proceeds go to a good cause.

“Since sales began in mid-November, we have sold 165 stones and earned 1,250 euros,” explained Lemberger. Chunks roughly twice the size of a fist are particularly popular. “Some buy it for their parents, who have been looking at the high road for their entire lives, others for themselves because they have been driving across the street for years.” He also bought a stone himself. “For my father. He is an architect and interested in local history,” said Lemberger.

Except for a few comments on the Internet, the company did not receive extremely negative criticism of the action. “On the contrary. Some people have said: If the north high road should also be demolished as planned, I will put a stone from there next to it,” he said. But that is a long way off.

The partial demolition of Hochstraße Süd began in mid-June and was officially completed at the end of September. The dismantling was necessary because a section threatened to collapse, according to structural engineers.
