Municipalities – Ludwigshafen am Rhein – Ludwigshafen discusses town hall and elevated roads – politics

Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) – The elaborate partial demolition of Hochstraße Süd in Ludwigshafen is still underway – the second largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate is also setting the course for the next mega project. The city council approved the demolition of the town hall building on Monday, clearing the way for examining the course of a planned city street. The committee thus followed the proposal of the administration. Where a new town hall should be built is still being examined.

After demolition, the area would be completely available for planning – especially for the difficult traffic routing in the industrial city on the Rhine. The administration wants to investigate in a timely manner what advantages a slight route change of the planned city street would have – among other things for a shorter construction period and lower costs.

Mayor Jutta Steinruck (SPD) said she was also talking to the federal and state governments about financing. “Decisions for Ludwigshafen are always decisions for the entire region,” she emphasized. It’s not just city streets. “These are Rhine crossings and economic routes for companies and commuters.”

In Ludwigshafen, apart from the almost completely dismantled Hochstraße Süd, the ailing Hochstraße Nord also has to be renewed. Both are considered to be important transport axes in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region with municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse.
