Municipalities – Dresden – Tourism industry fears losses due to 2G regulation – Politics

Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Saxon tourism association fears a slump in sales in the hospitality industry due to the planned introduction of the 2G rule. From Monday onwards, only those who have been vaccinated and recovered will have access to restaurants, indoor events and major events in the Free State. The regulation said the tense labor and skilled worker situation would worsen further, the regional association announced on Thursday.

It is incomprehensible to apply the proposed new 2G obligation only for the tourism industry if tests (3G) are also allowed for schools, professions, trade and local public transport, it said. The association called for the industry to retain the 3G rule with the option of using the 2G rule as an option, as well as the expansion of a free test infrastructure.

Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the tourism industry has been the industry that has been hardest hit by the effects. In 2020 alone, Saxon tourism would have suffered a 40 percent drop in sales. With the expansion of the 2G rule, the wrong signal is sent that only unvaccinated people could be carriers of infection.

The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 336.4 on Thursday in Saxony. This means that the Free State continues to be the federal state with the second highest weekly incidence after Thuringia (357.4). In addition, the country is at the bottom of the vaccination rate with 56.9 percent for second vaccinations.
