Municipalities are demanding permanent money from the state of Saxony as compensation for the airport expansion

As the airport grows, so must the infrastructure around it. This is how Schkeuditz and Taucha see it. Where is the need in the cities greatest? And what else do you expect from the Free State?

Schkeuditz/Taucha.Saxony’s willingness to provide the municipalities in the vicinity of Leipzig-Halle Airport with 40 million euros as compensation for the expansion of the airport has met with goodwill in the town halls. The Mayor of Schkeuditz, Rayk Bergner (CDU), sees this as a “change of heart” in the Free State after years of effort. However, his Taucha counterpart Tobias Meier (FDP) made it clear at the same time: “It must not just be a one-time payment that is part of a double budget.” The Free State’s commitment must be consolidated. “Because we will all live here for a few more decades – we with the airport and the airport with us,” he said.
