A municipal official in General Toshevo was brought to court for demanding and receiving a bribe. The occasion was his promise in return for the sum of 4,000 BGN not to fulfill his official duties and not to issue a finding protocol for illegal construction, BNR reported.
The charge was brought to court by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Dobrich.
The long-time chief expert in the General Toshevo Municipality was engaged in organizing an impartial and objective investigation of reports and complaints from citizens related to problems of a structural nature, as well as reports of illegal construction.
The detainee received a notice of construction without the proper documents in March 2022. After a visit to the offender, a German citizen, the municipal official established actual illegal construction. Subsequently, he simulated activities of measurement and calculation of a fee for the legalization of the building and requested BGN 4,000 for the service.
If found guilty, the 61-year-old chief expert in the Municipality of General Toshevo may receive a sentence of up to six years of “imprisonment” and a fine of up to BGN 5,000.
