“Municipal Library of l’Alfàs del Pi Hosts ‘La Maleta Lila’ Collection to Promote Gender Equality and Diversity Through Literature”

The Municipal Library of l’Alfàs del Pi hosts from this week ‘La Maleta Lila’, a collection of books whose theme revolves around gender equality, feminism, social sustainability, respect for diversity and the fight against gender violence. It is an itinerant project of the municipal libraries of Altea and Gata de Gorgos.

The councilor for Igualdad de l’Alfàs, Rocío Guijarro, and the mayor of Culture, Manuel Casado, have presented the initiative together with the councilor for Culture of Altea, Aurora Serrat, the director of the Municipal Library of Altea, Ingasi Beltrán, and the municipal librarian of Alfàs, Juan Orozco.

‘La Maleta Lila’ is a collection of about 60 books, which travels through the public libraries and educational centers of the Valencian Community. The fundamental objective of the project, led by the municipal libraries of Altea and Gata de Gorgos, is to work, through literature, for gender equality and respect for diversity, bringing these values ​​closer to readers of all ages. Books specially chosen to make women visible and provide tools to build a less macho and more egalitarian society.

This collection of books will be available to users of the Municipal Library of l’Alfàs del Pi for the next two months. These are reference readings, both in Valencian and Spanish, that deal with concepts such as tolerance, equality, solidarity or empathy and that make visible the contribution of women to history, while promoting respectful attitudes towards differences.

The Alfàs del Pi City Council emphasizes the importance of having this type of project, which makes readings available to all citizens to serve as a support tool for egalitarian and non-sexist education.

An initiative that is in line with the ‘Rinconcitos de la Igualdad’ project, which the Alfàs del Pi Town Council has created in the three public schools in the municipality. The ‘Equality Corners’ are spaces in which, through reading, women are given greater visibility and the theme of equality is brought closer to students, promoting tolerance and respect for diversity.
