Seven lists will compete in the first round of municipal elections on Sunday March 15, 2020. After six years in office, Michel Dantin is the first target to be beaten down for his opponents.

IThey all have one goal: to push Michel Dantin towards the exit, and if possible to take his place.
Thierry Repentin at the head of “Chambéry en commun”, Christian Saint-André with “Chambéry Ensemble”, Aurélie Le Meur with “Chambé Citoyenne”, Sarah Hamoudi-Wilkowsky at the head of “Chambéry solidarity and ecological”, Laurent Ripart with ” Chambé Poing Levé ”, and Marie Ducruet with“ Lutte Ouvrière- Making the workers’ camp heard ”will be put to the vote of the Chambers on March 15, just like the list of the outgoing mayor“ To love Chambéry is to act with you ”.
Throughout the municipal campaign, the six candidates opposed to Michel Dantin criticized him for actions and political choices, of course, but also attacked his style.
A suffering democracy?
Without exception, the candidates for the municipal elections defend an axis on participatory or direct democracy, undermined during this mandate according to the opponents of Michel Dantin. Strengthening of neighborhood councils with a participatory budget, more consultation and listening emerge from the programs of the candidates… including that of the outgoing mayor.
The enemy of ecology?
As for strategic choices, the candidate inserted in Les Républicains is especially attacked on his transport and parking policy. Against a backdrop of ecological transition and soft mobility, the creation of the Ravet car park close to the Elephants, the traffic plan for a peaceful city center and the overhaul of the bus network are still struggling to pass.
A mayor not present
Michel Dantin was at the same time as mayor of Chambéry, MEP until 2019. He had announced during the wishes to the population his choice to favor the town hall. A double hat which made him, according to the other candidates, a little present mayor.
A good manager
A finding that neither the outgoing mayor nor his supporters obviously share. And as proof, Michel Dantin highlights his results: an encouraged biodiversity policy, creation of cycle paths and implementation of chrono bus lines which have gained users.
However, the candidate’s best card is finances. Coming to power in 2014 on this priority issue of getting Chambéry out of toxic loans, Michel Dantin reduced the duration of the city’s deleveraging from 17 to 8 years and the debt per capita from 2,094 euros in 2014 to 1,700 in 2019. He thus appears as a good manager, realistic, who knows his files. But will this be enough?
What score in the first round of 2014?
In 2014, four lists were contested in the municipal elections. After 17 years of socialist governance under Louis Besson then Bernadette Laclais, the Chambériens were called upon to express themselves through their vote. In the first round of municipal elections, Michel Dantin largely won ahead of the outgoing mayor, with an abstention rate of around 46%.
– Michel Dantin (UMP-UDI): 49.66%
– Bernadette Laclais (PS EELV): 35.99%
– Guy Fajeau (PCF) : 7,17 %
– Laurent Ripart (NPA): 7,17%
In the second round of the 2014 municipal elections, Michel Dantin won definitively with 54.74% against 45.26% for Bernadette Laclais.

The game of alliances could change everything
According to an Ipsos poll commissioned by our colleagues from Dauphiné Libéré and France Bleu Pays de Savoie published on Monday March 9, the outgoing mayor Michel Dantin (LR) would pass the first round with 41% of the vote while his main challenger Thierry Repentin (ex PS) is credited with 21% of the voting intentions.
Following the candidate of Chambé Citoyenne supported by EELV, Aurélie Le Meur, with 17% of the votes. A real surprise for this newcomer to politics, known only by 18% of respondents.
Another point to note, the low score of Christian Saint-André supported by LREM. The 49-year-old lawyer would only attract 7% of the voters. The NPA and LO are each credited with 1%.
A second round with four heads?
The list led by Sarah Hamoudi-Wilkowsky (PCF, Génération.s, LFI) would obtain 12% of the votes on the sample of 604 people questioned.
A score that would allow this school teacher to invite herself to the second round, the maintenance being possible from 10% of the votes cast. Michel Dantin is not, however, immune to defeat, the transfer of votes from the left lists during the in-between rounds could well change the situation.
If Christian Saint-André does not close the door to either of the two favorite candidates, for the left-wing lists, several blocking points are hindering the rallying to the former socialist minister who had supported the election of Emmanuel Macron.
Taxed ” candidate of 49.3 ” and of ” cumulard », Its alliance with the UDI represented by Christelle Favetta is also a red line that the Chambé Citoyenne and Chambéry social and environmental lists are not necessarily ready to cross.
