Children, adolescents and young adults live in a society that is characterized by major changes in their world. This is accompanied by a variety of requirements for holistic (values) education and upbringing in the family and school context.
School social work, as an intensive form of cooperation between schools and child and youth welfare and an independent field of social work, expands the holistic education and support offering at Dortmund schools in this context.
Die Municipal coordination office for school social work has been working continuously since 2009 on the needs-based expansion and qualitative further development of school social work in Dortmund. It offers the following services as part of cross-agency quality development:

- Initiation and further development of cross-agency quality standards
- Planning, organizing and implementing qualification and networking offers for school social work specialists to strengthen and expand professional competence
- Carrying out specialist advisory activities on an individual (specialists, school management, advisory teachers) as well as school structural level (concept work, setting up/expanding internal and external advisory networks) level
- Professional networking at state and federal level in the context of cross-agency quality management for the field of school social work
