BAD SODEN-SALMÜNSTER – Representatives of the city council, the magistrate and the mayor from Bad Soden-Salmünster recently came together for a workshop on wind energy.

There are several wind priority areas in the district of Bad Soden-Salmünster, i.e. areas in which the planning of wind turbines is fundamentally possible. Parts of the designated areas are owned by the city, others belong to the state agency HessenForst, others private individuals.

Mayor Dominik Brasch: “The workshop showed that where we own land, we have options for or against wind energy. However, we are not the sole owner in any priority area, which means that planning can also be done without us.”

The workshop should provide information on what that can mean for the various areas and property constellations. The participants were able to draw on the expertise of lawyer Micha Klewar from the law firm Becker Büttner Held in Munich. Mayor Götz Esser from Weilrod (Hochtaunuskreis) described experiences from a municipality that operates wind turbines on its own land.

The speakers Ulrich Fischer (RES Deutschland GmbH) and Justus Hillebrecht (Hessen Forestry Agency) informed about the status of planning in the priority areas of the sub-regional plan for renewable energies in southern Hesse number 3-309 (district Steinau) and 3-73 (Bad Soden-Salmünster), after the company RES had been awarded the contract for the project development on the HessenForst area in December 2021. The first avifaunistic investigations and wind measurements to assess the economic viability and permitability will start shortly.

Those involved took part under the premise that the workshop would not predetermine a possible political decision. “The workshop was intended to help politicians in Bad Soden-Salmünster to make a qualified decision in the complex situation as to whether and if so, to what extent we want to get involved in the topic of wind energy,” explained Mayor Dominik Brasch. “I am therefore very pleased that all the parliamentary groups, the magistrate and also the local mayors were represented in large numbers and that we had a very objective discussion.”

As a next step, a public information event is planned for the beginning of May. “Since both transparency and the involvement of critical opinion camps are of great importance to everyone involved, we therefore want to involve citizens’ initiatives, local nature conservation and representatives of the local clinics and hotel industry before a decision is made,” emphasizes Kurstadt Mayor Brasch in conclusion .

In preparing for the event, the city is supported by the Hessen Energy Transition Citizens’ Forum, which also moderated the committee workshop. (pm)
