– Great excitement in Munich: A woman drove her car directly into the Olympia shopping center on Wednesday – the car only came to a standstill on the railing of an escalator.
A photo published by the emergency services on the Twitter short message service shows a car that is demolished on an escalator in the building. Lots of broken glass on the floor. An 83-year-old apparently unintentionally drove her BMW to the Olympia shopping center (OEZ) around 11 a.m.

In the building, the car crashed into an escalator after about 20 meters, where it got stuck. An 18-year-old from Austria could only save himself on an escalator by jumping to the side, the police reported. The young man suffered minor injuries, the driver was also slightly injured and was taken to a hospital. The recovery of the vehicle involved in the accident was difficult at first, reported the Munich fire department: “The car got wedged properly.”
There was no danger, they said. After the car was cleared from the building, the operator took care of the cordoning off measures around the area. For the fire brigade, the operation was over by the early afternoon. According to initial findings by the police, an error in the operation of the vehicle pedals could have caused the accident. Further details were not yet known.
