Red Bulls win in Berlin / Augsburg beats Bietigheim / Straubing clearly wins against Bremerhaven / Krefeld celebrates against Cologne in the small Rhenish derby
League leaders beaten: Coming out of the break, Red Bull Munich celebrated a 3-2 win in overtime at Eisbären Berlin. As a result, the Upper Bavarians ended their series of defeats and climbed back into the top four. The Straubing Tigers won a sovereign 5:1 against the Fischtown Pinguins.
Despite numerous failures, the Bietigheim Steelers put up a good fight against the Augsburg Panthers, but ultimately lost 3-1. As a result, the Fuggerstädter distance themselves from the lower ranks and still have the chance to intervene in the playoffs. In their first game of the year, the Krefeld Pinguine defeated the Kölner Haie 3-1. With the seventh defeat in a row, Cologne’s negative run continues.
After an initial scan, the top game in the middle of the first third was one after the other. First Giovanni Fiori (10th) provided the polar bears with a majority before the guests answered. Filip Varejcka (12′) scored to equalize and in the 13th minute Benjamin Smith (13′) scored the 2-1 for Munich after seven seconds of power play. In the middle section, the capitals were able to equalize through Matthew White (30th) with a double majority. After the last 20 minutes without goals, the decision was made in extra time. In overtime, Benjamin Street scored the game winner after just 17 seconds to make it 3-2 for Red Bull Munich.
Right from the start, the Straubing Tigers ran like clockwork. Michael Connolly (5th) put the home team in front at the powder tower. Sandro Schönberger (11th) and Jason Akeson (13th) extended their lead to 3:0 with a double strike. Also in the second third the decimated Fischtown Pinguins found no remedy against strong Tigers, who scored the goal again through Taylor Leier (32nd). After only eleven seconds in the final section, Akeson (41st) scored his second goal of the day with a man, which also took away the last glimmer of hope for Bremerhaven. So the game went on smoothly. Ziga Jeglic scored the consolation goal for the guests, but in the end the Straubing Tigers celebrated a 5-1 win over the Fischtown Pinguins.
