This means that the triathlon remains true to itself, because it is a living tradition and what makes triathlon so fascinating that elite and age groups start within the same event. The finish line and the atmosphere in the Olympic Park will give the athletes a unique experience. It is a great opportunity, especially for the German athletes, to compete in front of a home crowd, ”said Bernd Kapp, DTU Vice President of Popular Sports.
Integration is also an important sign for Munich’s mayor of sport, Verena Dietl: “Sport knows no boundaries – especially no age limits. It is all the more correct that the European age group championships on the triathlon sprint distance are also part of the European Championships 2022 in Munich and that even more athletes have a chance to win a medal. The finish in the impressive ensemble of the Olympic Park is therefore not only reserved for the top athletes in the triathlon elite races over the Olympic distance, but will also be an unforgettable experience for the participants in the sprint distance in the age groups. “
The race of the age group athletes will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2022. Up to 1,000 starters from different nations will fight for the medals in their age groups. The start is at Karlsfelder See, where you can swim 750 meters. Then you cycle towards the Olympiapark (20 kilometers) before you run the final 5 kilometers in the Olympiapark. The exact routes will be published promptly on the website of the European Championships Munich 2022.
