Munich: Truck and excavator in flames – police investigate arson – Munich

A fire broke out on a company premises on Detmoldstrasse early Monday morning. The emergency call to the police and fire department was received at around 3:10 a.m., according to a police report.

At the scene of the fire, several trucks and a small excavator were among those caught on fire. According to current information, no one was injured. The extent of the damage is not yet known, but initial estimates suggest that it is likely to be at least a six-figure sum.

Since there are indications of deliberate arson, the Munich Criminal Investigation Department has taken over further investigations into the cause of the fire. The Munich Police Department’s Department 13, which is responsible for arson crimes, is asking for information and possible witness observations on 089 29100.

There have been at least 30 such arson attacks in Munich and the surrounding area since 2019. Most recently, unknown persons set fire to a construction train at the end of July, and here too the damage ran into the hundreds of thousands. The arsonists mostly target so-called “critical infrastructure” facilities, including bridges, railway lines or power lines. The other targets of attacks were forestry machines, warehouses and construction site vehicles.

The police headquarters then set up the “Raute” investigation team and is looking into the political background of the arson attacks. The investigation team has also become involved in the most recent case, and the Attorney General’s Office has also taken over the case. It is responsible for state security crimes.
