Munich: Shootings near the Israeli consulate – The attacker is dead – 2024-09-07 12:43:07

Shots fired outside Israel’s consulate general in Munich, Germany.

The man involved in the incident outside the Nazi Documentation Center succumbed to his injuries, Bavarian Foreign Minister Joachim Herrmann said recently.

According to the police, at 09:00 (local time) a man with a long gun arrived in front of the Documentation Center and shot the police officers who were on guard duty in front of the building.

The police returned fire and fatally wounded the attacker, while a large police operation was soon underway, as the neighboring building houses the Consulate General of Israel, which is also guarded. According to a police representative, five police officers initially participated in the exchange of fire, while there is currently no information on the identity and motives of the attacker.

Police believe the man acted alone and are not looking for accomplices. However, her business continues.

Earlier, Munich police asked the public to avoid the area near the city’s Nazi History Documentation Center via a post on social media platform X.

Meanwhile, police said a helicopter has been deployed to the area to provide them with a better overview of the situation.

It is a reminder that today is the anniversary of the 1972 terrorist attack that resulted in the death of 11 Israeli athletes during the Munich Olympics.
