Munich: Near-collision at level crossing | Bavaria

In Munich, on January 3, there was a near catastrophe at a level crossing.

On Tuesday evening (January 3) at the Fasanerie S-Bahn stop, there was a near collision between an S-Bahn and vehicles or pedestrians about to cross a level crossing. A collision was avoided thanks to an emergency stop by the driver.

The press release in the wording:

Monk – Around 21:20, an S-Bahn from Munich to Freising pulled into Fasanerie station. The barrier system in front of the level crossing stop on Feldmochinger Straße was open despite the oncoming train. There were both cars and pedestrians on the level crossing. The S-Bahn driver recognized the dangerous situation and initiated an emergency stop. Since the S-Bahn stopped shortly before the level crossing, no injuries or property damage occurred. The driver suffered one Shock and had to be pulled out and replaced.

Investigations revealed that the barrier system at the level crossing has been damaged since August 2022 and is therefore being secured with additional security posts and tapes. The federal police are investigating due to the danger to rail traffic. According to initial results, the near-collision is likely due to human error.
