(Foto: LHM) — At the ITB trade fair in Berlin, the city introduces itself with the strong slogan “Munich is beautiful” – and with every tour there is a free hygiene package – Gloss by Julian Hans Measurements are not possible at the moment. Travel is not possible at the moment. An international travel fair is of course difficult. If Saxony is overrun by tourists this year, it worked. At the international travel fair ITB, which opened its virtual doors to the specialist audience on Tuesday, every second item in the program is dedicated to “Germany’s number one cultural destination” (“Once upon a time – Saxony’s fairy tale castles”). The other Free State will be the “official cultural destination of the ITB” this year. You won’t find Bavaria or Munich on the four-day event program. To this end, the virtual trade fair presence of Tourismus-Information starts with a strong punchline: “Munich is beautiful”. For those who have not yet won over, there is still the image film “Simply Munich” to see with Friedensengel, Frauenkirche and Eisbach. The clip is a bit older, but has been adapted to the times with a few cuts: mass events such as the Oktoberfest and Klassik am Odeonsplatz are no longer included in the ITB version. No Munich visitor should have to worry about his or her safety: For every tour booked, there is a free hygiene package with mouth and nose protection and disinfectant that can be picked up at the tourist information office at Marienplatz – if you can get there without a mask. In order to be noticed at all, the competition among the German Mü cities relies on shock effects: The self-proclaimed “murder city of Münster” is advertising for Tatort fans. The offer of a five-day trip to the Christmas markets in Munich, Nuremberg and Rothenburg remains unbeatable: “The Christmas Market in Munich around Marienplatz Square will be open from 2nd December until 24th December 2018”, it says in the program.
